Charles Brian Matthews

"The Smartest Man in Wrestling"
With an IQ of 189, Chuck’s brainpower is nothing to scoff at. Chuck uses this to his advantage, both in and out of the ring. A master strategist and efficient manipulator, Chuck is able to both come up with elaborate plans to get what he’s after, and execute them to perfection, as well as invent new plans of attack in the heat of battle. Outside the ring, his dubious charm and uncanny way with words allows him to manipulate others into his doing…despite their uncertainty about his true intentions.

“Original Sin”
Bestowed upon him during a long feud with Salvation, Original Sin was meant to be a hit to the conscience and psyche of Chuck, a known Catholic. Rather than take offense, Chuck embraced the title, using it as a means to rise to the top of the wrestling world as one of the dirtiest players in the game, garnering massive heat no matter where they went. Although the nickname is not used as frequently, his signature pose, the “devil’s horns” raised above his head, is commonly referred to as his “Original Sin” pose, due to his starting the pose during that era.

“The Sex Icon”
More of a joke than anything, Chuck’s sexual prowess preceded him, and the name stuck. Deciding to turn his personal life into an over-the-top gimmick, Chuck is still referred to as the Sex Icon from time to time, despite his somewhat reformed lifestyle.

Born May 17, 1985
From Chicago, Illinois
6'1, 225 lbs

SPECIALTY MATCH
Devastation Match
A match designed by Chuck as a means to end rivalries. Created with intent to shorten careers, the Devastation match is a point-based ladder match, where the end goal is to reach the prize hanging above the ring. Before retrieving the item, however, competitors must first score three points: The Blood Point, the Fall Point, and the Pain Point. The first two are self-explanatory, and the third requires a competitor to either light his opponent on fire, knock him out for a ten-count, or put him through a table. To date, Chuck is 10-2, though he generally doesn’t acknowledge the losses to Chad Mason and Brandon Macdonald. Chuck holds more victories in the match than all other Devastation combatants combined. This, however, is due to Chuck’s involvement in all but one of the bouts (That bout being Ashley Matthews’ victory over Lindsay Calaway). Of the sixteen bouts contested, Chuck has interfered in one, refereed two, and competed in twelve.

SIGNATURE MOVES
Hollywood Impact
Since his stint as Brian Hunt, Chuck’s spear has been revamped and re-made. Rather than a simple tackle to the mat, Chuck has changed the move to a semi-spinebuster, powering the opponent to the mat, and causing damage to the opponent’s skull in addition to the abdomen. Despite being an easy move to pull off, years of practice and use have made the Hollywood Impact one of, if not the single most devastating spear in wrestling. It’s true effectiveness comes in its versatility, in that Chuck is able to (and often does) hit the move anytime, anywhere, from almost any position in or around the ring.

Cryptic Cross
A sharpshooter, the Cryptic Cross is Chuck’s answer to critics who claimed he was a one-trick pony who couldn’t win by submission. Although the Cryptic Cross rarely does grant Chuck a victory, it is still a valuable move in Chuck’s arsenal, often used to wear down the opponent, hurt the spine, and make the opponent vulnerable to a Hollywood Impact later in the match.

Welcome to Chicago
The corkscrew splash from the top rope was learned from Jason Hawk during his short stint as Brian Hunt. Welcome to Chicago strays from Chuck’s “simple is best” philosophy, and is undoubtedly the toughest move in Chuck’s arsenal to pull off, but also the most theatrical. Due to the tricky nature of the move, Chuck will only attempt the move in instances where his opponent is in ideal position, and Chuck is in a strong position in the match. He will rarely, if ever, even attempt the move if he feels his opponent has a shot at beating him.

BIOGRAPHY

Oh god, fuck that.

ATTIRE
Chuck wears standard wrestling tights to the ring. The trunks often depict a red star on either side, though they may sometimes show crosses, rip-patterns, or camouflage, depending on nothing in particular. Besides this, Chuck tends to wear a lot of black and red in his gear, though, on rare occasion, sports blue and white. Outside the ring, he prefers to dress casually, taking a pair of jeans and a t-shirt over a suit and tie any day. He has several tattoos across his body, each one representing a key point in his life or a memorable time in his career. Chuck intends to have the ink on his body tell the story of his life when he dies. Chuck has a lip piercing on the lower left side, which he got when he was a teenager. He has since stopped wearing it.

STYLE
Master Technician
Chuck is considered by many to be the best defensive wrestler in the industry. This is due mostly to his aforementioned intelligence, which allows him to think of innovative counters to almost any maneuver, even if he’s never seen the move before. Chuck prefers to remain grounded, not often going for high-risk moves.

Poor Brawling
Chuck cannot trade punches. He is well aware of this fact, and therefore, will often avoid getting into an all-out strike-fest at any cost. While he may be able to hold his own against other poor brawlers, if he is backed into a corner and taking heavy punches, he tends to falter, and will do anything in his power to shift the match back to a more technical contest. It should be known, however, that Chuck is fairly efficient in Muay Thai. While his fists and feet may be mostly useless, his knees and elbows are valuable assets, and he will rely on them to get out of a fistfight if he gets cornered.

Rookie High-Flyer
A new feature in the Chuck Matthews style, Chuck has learned a few tips and tricks from the greatest high-flyer in the world, Jason Hawk. Though he prefers to stay on the mat, if Chuck were to go to the top ropes, he could, in theory, inflict some solid damage.

ENTRANCE

Cast out the storm in my head I've tripped and fell in
Caught in my conscience again
I try to push it away

World to Burn by Rev Theory plays throughout the arena. The camera focuses on the jumbotron, where Chuck’s smirking face is seen, before it’s engulfed in a shadow, showing only his sunken eyes and wicked smile. The camera pans down to the entrance curtain for a moment. Finally, Chuck Matthews emerges, looking at the ring. He faces the ring, wearing a smirk identical to his big screen counterpart.

In case you forget I'll boldly just let it all fade
Search the silence
I can't believe all the lies that you tell me I break

Chuck stops halfway down the ramp and looks to the booing crowd. He raises his hands in his signature old-style cornas. Fireworks erupt in a line behind him, firing back and forth for a moment. Chuck looks back to the the ring, and continues walking. He runs up the steps and pauses on the apron, flashing a grin at the crowd before stepping between the ropes.

This is the world that you burn.
This is the life that you waste.
How does it feel on your own, now that you're pushing me away?

Chuck climbs up on the turnbuckle. He stares at the crowd, sneering at them, and stretches out his arms, soaking in the crowd's reactions. Finally, he points to the opponent, shakes his head, then motions to himself. He hops down from the corner, and turns, pacing back and forth, and smoothing out his hair. He stares at the opponent as he rolls his wrists, getting ready for the bell.

Other Notes
-Chuck is fluent in English and French. This is strange, only for the fact that Chuck has only visited the country twice.
-Despite a generally cool demeanor, Chuck is prone to occasional bouts of anger. Though he often keeps a level-head, both in and out of the ring, it is possible to push him over the edge. When this happens, he tends to fly into a fit of uncontrolled aggression, and tends to make mistakes.
-Chuck has never won a tables match, of the six he’s participated in. On top of that, when he loses a point to an opponent in Devastation, it‘s usually because he was put through a table. A joke revolving around Chuck says: “If a table is set up during a match, there’s a good chance Chuck Matthews is going through it.”
-Chuck is the CEO of his own company, Matthews Enterprises. Starting as a modeling agency for Ryan Apollos, Chuck has since turned it into a media empire that spans the entire globe.
-Chuck is the youngest of four children. His oldest brother, and Chris’s twin, died in a car accident when Chuck was a kid. After Chris is Jessica, the only girl, and the only Matthews not involved in wrestling.
