Hospital Visit
“So it’s been nearly two weeks since I stepped inside a NLWF ring. Two weeks since I was burned, bloodied and beaten. You see I thought I had out done myself by picking the Glasgow Death Match. She decided to play dirty and go for my pride at every turn and that was unfair even in a match where the rules mean nothing. I have been resting and healing up for the past two weeks. For half of the first week after my match at War Games, I was confined to a hospital bed.”
{Day 1-Monday Night, After War Games}
There I was stuck in the Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, the night before I had three awful moments in the match, getting lit on fire, getting kicked in my balls, and bleeding buckets of blood. I was unaware about how hurt I was and I wanted to know as much as they could tell me. I looked over a the door as this door opens and a doctor walks in. He takes a look at my charts and looks at me.
-Derek Wallace-
What’s up doc.
-Doctor-
Well Mr. Wallace I have good news and bad news.
-Derek Wallace-
What’s the good news doc.
-Doctor-
The good news is that you’re injuries aren’t career or life threatening, you will be allowed to return to action soon.
-Derek Wallace-
So what’s the bad news then.
-Doctor-
I am not going to clear you for action this week. You suffered a severe first degree burn to your back and hand as well as a deep gash on your forehead. X-rays also showed you sprained your ankle, which is not a really bad thing, just stay off it for a few days and you should be fine.
-Derek Wallace-
Oh come on doc, I know I’m not that hurt.
-Doctor-
You are that hurt, I just don’t get how you lasted that long with the burns you suffered.
-Derek Wallace-
So that proves I am tougher than you think I am. Let me get out of here.
-Doctor-
I’m afraid you are not allowed to leave just yet. I’d like to have you stay here till Wednesday, just as a precautionary measure.
-Derek Wallace-
Fine. I’ll stay but I’m not liking it at all doc.
-Doctor-
You don’t have to like it.
I clearly disagreed with the doc about staying but like I really had a choice. My back was in severe pain from the burns. I just decided to let it go and stay to avoid wasting my time arguing with him.
{Day 2-Tuesday}
Tuesday was slightly better than Monday, but it still was a pain in my ass to be stuck in a hospital. I just couldn’t stand having to stay in one place for three days with nothing to do but sit around and watch TV or go for a walk around the hospital. My back was feeling much better and I didn’t think it was truly needed of me for me to stay there. I go to sit up and I feel no pain in doing so. Just then the door opens and this smoking hot woman walks in. She walks over to the bed next to me where there’s this fifty or sixty year old man is laying down. I watch as the woman talks to the man. She then looks up at me and I try to mask the fact that I was staring. A second or two later I feel a tap on my shoulder. I look up and the woman.
-Derek Wallace-
Can I help you?
-Woman-
You know it’s inpolite to stare.
-Derek Wallace-
I wasn’t staring.
-Woman-
Yes you are, and I have to say you look familiar. Are you an actor?
-Derek Wallace-
Nope, I am not an actor.
-Woman-
Ok, are you an athlete?
-Derek Wallace-
Yes I am indeed an athlete.
-Woman-
Wait a minute I know who you are. You’re Derek Wallace the NLWF North American Champion.
-Derek Wallace-
Actually it’s former North American Champion, I lost my title last night.
-Woman-
Oh I’m sorry to hear that.
-Derek Wallace-
So is that your dad in that bed?
-Woman-
Yes, by the way my name’s Lindsay.
-Derek Wallace-
Nice to meet you, where you from?
-Lindsay-
Well I was born here in San Diego but I live over in Boston, Massachusetts.
-Derek Wallace-
Really, I have a house there.
-Lindsay-
So I have heard.
-Derek Wallace-
So do you have someone waiting for you back in Boston.
-Lindsay-
No unfortunately, my last boyfriend was a control freak who didn’t want me to leave Boston just to see my sick father. I was so angry at him that I broke up with him. But being the control freak that he is, he turned around and told everyone that he broke up with me.
-Derek Wallace-
I see. So how long are you here in San Diego?
-Lindsay-
I’m here for till tomorrow.
-Derek Wallace-
Cool, I get released from here tomorrow. Maybe we could meet up and probably catch a flight home together?
-Lindsay-
Sure, let me give you my number and you can call me when you get released from the hospital.
Lindsay pulls out a piece of paper and writes something on it before handing it over to me.
-Lindsay-
There’s my cell number. I’m available anytime on it.
-Derek Wallace-
I’ll remember that.
Lindsay turns away and says goodbye to her dad before leaving the room. I smile after she leaves.
-Derek Wallace-
Forget Rawrlurb, I just found an eleven out of ten.
“Rawrlurb, I no longer care what happens to you, last week you lost to Bobby Ocean, the first man to fall to The Renegade. This week your going to lose to the man that should still be the North American champion. My head wasn’t in the game at War Games and you took advantage, I’ll give you that. But no one is going to make a fool of me, the way I see it I still have the edge cause of my two wins over you. You can’t even begin to think this one will be as easy as War Games, cause The Renegade has come to play.”
