Coming Soon!
Sweet and somehow frightening, Calliope music fills the air. Carnival goers mill around. Some are eating corndogs or funnel cakes. Young men, like butting bucks, toss baseballs at milk bottles or throw darts at balloons to try to win a stuffed prize for their sweethearts.
The camera moves through the crowd swinging this way and that to dodge carnival goers. It passes many games and concessions. The world whips by but slows down as it goes past the start of the Freaks and Oddities. You can see the curtain is partially lifted at one of the tents.
The world seems darker here.
The sign above the entrance reads See The Mysterious Enchantress in huge red letters. As you peek inside you can hear the sounds of a struggle. Four young guys, probably in their late teens, are harassing a small woman. Not long outside her teenage years herself. She is wearing robes like a mystic or fortune teller. But, not for long.
The boys are tearing off pieces of her silky wrap. Here her sash. There her mask. They mean to .... rape her?
In the the darkness a chain rattles. "What the hell was that?" says one of the guys.
"I didn't hear nothing. Shut up!" whispers the one who is apparently the leader. A loud tearing of fabric exposes the swell of her breasts beneath a bright pink bra.
A soft rasp of someone breathing heavy.
"I know I heard something that time. Hey, what the fu...?" He heard the loud rattling of the chain for only an instant before he heard the hard meat packing sound of his skull cracking against the skull of the guy standing next to him. Enormous hands with sausage sized fingers had wrapped around the side of his face and smashed their heads together.
"Hey, man," the leader said, voice trembling. "Who the hell are.... UUGH?!" he is cut off in mid sentence as the girl snaps a quick toe kick to his chin. Teeth shards and blood spray out of his split lips in a pattern resembling a red liquid fan. Before he has really hit the ground she is on top of him raining blows down on his poor, shattered grill.
"Sunuvabitch!" she howls. Pulverizing his face. "Touch me again."
The fourth guy had been standing in a daze this whole time. He eyeballed the hulk who came from the darkness. A clown. A giant nightmare clown. The bastard must be nine feet tall, he thinks. The clown has a white face with dark blue marks and fangs? Freakin' fangs?
Breathing heavy, hunched over, arms extended, fingers grabbing nothing, and squeezing it, releasing it. The clown is advancing on this poor slob at a rate which says, Stand there or run. I don't care. In the end I'll kill you anyway.
As he started to turn and run anyway he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. Amazingly the Cracked Skull Twins sprang up off the floor and jumped on the big clown's back. Their arms were a blur of punches. Their legs threw a volley of kicks. The clown took no notice. He continued to advance.
Frozen with fear the guy could only stand and watch. The clown walked right up to him and bent down in his face. He could smell the putrid breath. He saw long stringers of saliva dripping off the fangs. The clown reached his hands behind his back and caught those guys by their collars. In one swift motion he brought them around in front of him and snatched up the last guy.
The world turned over. His stomach wrenched. He was flying through the air. No safety net for this Human Cannonball. The three of them sailed towards the door and landed with a thud.
The clown was instantly on them. Smashing noses. Breaking teeth off at the gums. Splitting lips wide open.
Then just as suddenly he stopped. Through one eye which could only see in shades of red he saw the pint-sized pixie pulling the big clown back on his chain. "Let them go. They aren't worth it." she said, calmly.
The clown relaxed. The girl picked up a piece of her torn garment and wiped her make-up off. Underneath was clown paint. What the hell?
What the hell? was the only thought any of them could make as the four of them fled into the night.
"Don't EVER mess with Cotton and Candy, bitch!" she screeched after them. The big clown, Cotton, let out a primal roar. "Good boy," she said with a satisfied smile as she patted his shoulder.
"Good boy."
