The Gospel According to Matthews
"It doesn't matter who you are. Everyone does what's best for themselves. Everyone makes their own rules, their own decisions. But sometimes the best thing to do is to just shut up and do what you're told."
As soon as these words are spoken, the camera opens up to see a man walking quickly to a large wooden door. It's raining hard, and the man keeps his face down, away from the rain. He stops at the doors, and stares up at the tower. It is a chapel. The man slowly enters the place, and shakes himself off. He wipes the wet hair from his face, revealing that the man is in fact Chuck Matthews. Chuck sheds his wet coat and hangs it in the visitors' closet. He sits in a peu and stares up at the statue that hangs above the altar, depicting Christ on the cross. In his mind, Chuck pictures Tapido Delevega in Christ's place, and Chuck grins to himself as he recalls the incident at the show.
???: "Even when the world is in such chaos, some things still remain beautiful."
Chuck turns to see the priest coming down the aisle. The priest takes a seat next to Chuck. The two look up at the cross.
Priest: "It's a comforting feeling. Knowing that there's someone who will always be there to forgive you. No matter how many bad decisions you make. No matter how many people you hurt..."
The priest looks at Chuck.
Priest: "Or crucify above a wrestling ring. As long as you are remorseful, you will be forgiven. That's why you're here, is it not, Mr. Matthews?"
Chuck looks at the priest, and raises his eyebrow. The priest pats Chuck's shoulder and heads down the aisle once more.
Priest: "Please. Follow me."
The priest leads Chuck to the back of the church, where he ushers Chuck into the small curtained area for confessions. Chuck takes a seat. Moments later, he can hear the priest taking a seat on the other side. Between the two is a thin sheet of wood, with holes placed so that the two can talk.
Priest: "You may begin."
Chuck Matthews: "I am sorry."
The priest nods.
Priest: "You regret your recent actions. How you have lied and cheated to earn material possessions. How you've caused harm to innocent people, and associated yourself with Brenton Cyrus. Brenton Cyrus, who claims himself to be God, and even disgraces the very teachings of our good Lord. Now you, his associate, come to ask God for forgiveness."
Chuck looks up, a confused look on his face.
Chuck Matthews: "What? No, no, no, that's not why I'm here at all. I'm sorry alright, but not for what I've done with Cyrus and Mark. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to earn a spot in the King of the Throne match last week. I'm sorry for what Joe Santiago got himself into when he chose his replacement for Johnny Styles. But most of all, I'm sorry that I didn't beat the living hell out of Jake Stunner. And what's more-"
Priest: "Chuck, please! I realize you must be going through some hardships right now, or else you would not be saying and doing such horrible things. Certainly you don't wish to harm these men?"
Chuck Matthews: "Of course I do. Last week, Jake Stunner went on and on about how ignorant I was, about how I didn't listen to anyone. By doing so, Stunner committed the ultimate sin in Salvation's Book: 'Thou Shall not feed the people Bullshit.' But let's rewind a bit, father. He went on talking about how I was nothing because I was handed a title. Now he's in the same boat I am. He has his own little taste of gold, and it was handed to him. If he wants to impress anyone here, he'll go and try not to get himsef hospitalized at King of the Throne."
Priest: "Chuck, I can't listen to this! You have stared our heavenly Father in the face and spat in it. How do you sleep at night? How can you carry on in life knowing the things you've done? I can't listen to this any longer, Mr. Matthews. Whether you want it or not, I absolve you in the name of God the Father, the son, and the holy-"
Chuck drives his fist through the wood and grabs the priest by the collar of his robe. He smashes the priest's face into the wall, causing the priest's nose to break and bleed profusely. Chuck climbs through the hole and stands over the priest. He bends over the man, who holds his face in agony.
Chuck Matthews: "I'm not here to impress you, or your false gods. There is only one God in this world, and it's Salvation: The Dark Father, the Traitor Son, and the Unholy Measure."
